What a great country

On July 1st , we Canadians will be celebrating “Canada’s birthday”.  The occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada (Ontario and Quebec) into a federation of four provinces on July 1, 1867.  Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date.

July 1st is not just another holiday from work or school and we need to remind ourselves and our children what this day stands for.  It is a day of celebration of what this great country has become.  There is no mistaking that as Canadians (new and native born) we are fortunate to live here.

I am proud to be Canadian and I hope Canadians in all provinces and overseas will celebrate Canada’s birthday with pride.
